What is CBT Therapy?
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
CBT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviours.
CBT aims to help individuals identify negative thought patterns and replace them with more positive and helpful ones.
CBT also teaches practical skills and techniques to manage symptoms, such as relaxation techniques and problem-solving skills.
CBT typically involves weekly or biweekly sessions with a trained therapist and can last anywhere from a few weeks to several months.
Does CBT Therapy Work?
CBT is effective in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Studies have shown that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions, with some research suggesting that it can be just as effective as medication.
CBT has also been found to have long-lasting effects, with many individuals experiencing improvements in their symptoms even after completing therapy.

What to expect at your first CBT therapy session near you?
When you meet with a CBT therapist near you, you will typically discuss your history and symptoms related to your mental health.
Your CBT therapist will ask you about your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours that are associated with your symptoms, as well as how it has impacted your life.
It's important to be open and honest during this initial evaluation to ensure that your CBT therapist can diagnose your condition accurately and develop an effective treatment plan.
Your CBT therapist may also provide you with information about anxiety or other mental health conditions (e.g. trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, OCD), and discuss different types of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Additionally, you may discuss any concerns or questions you have about the CBT therapy process.
It's important to remember that the first CBT session is just the beginning of your journey towards healing, and with commitment and time, you can overcome the effects of anxiety and other mental health conditions.
